My thoughts

Here are my thoughts on the Extreme Couponing show on TLC.  First of all, they all have OCD and are hoarders.  But they are awesome at getting deals and building a stockpile. I saw a little of myself in all of them.  But I took notes and below are some points that I wrote down that may help me and you with our couponing.

1. Think more about ordering coupons online and buying in bulk.  I'm going to test this out and see how I do.  I've ordered coupons before but never in huge amounts.  I'm not gearing up for the apocalyse.  \

2.  Collect coupons from the newspaper recycling center.  I actually did this yesterday.  And I found a bunch.  So this is something I'm defiantly going to do more.  It's "clean trash" so it's not like dumpster diving.

3. Organize cut out coupons by the aisles in the grocery store.

4.  Get a huge paper cutter for cutting multiple coupon inserts at one time.

5. I'm thinking about driving to Owensboro to try out Kroger.  I want to see if it worth the gas money to shop there.  At least gives me a reason to go to Moonlight Bar-B-Q!!!

My shopping trips today

I went to Target first and my sub-total was $42.  After coupons it was $23.  I got 4 bottles of Suave shampoo for free, 2 right guard deordorants, 2 Nexcare Shrek bandaids for $.39, and the rest was diapers and groceries I had coupon for.  At Schnucks  was able to get Totinos pizza rolls for $.80 a box.  At Target I got for free 4 boxes of Vicks Sinex, revlon nail polish and 2 Christmas candy's.  My total was $3.23 and Igot back $15 in RR.  So I more or less got paid to shop there today.  NICE!!!!

I'm bragging

When you shop at CVS you use your CVS card which tracks your savings.  Check the bottom of all your receipts to see what your yearly savings is.  I have 2 cards but I use one of them most of the time.  Now that it is the end of the year I can see that at this one store with this one card I have saved $1,009.83.  And this is just one of 4 stores I coupon at.  Couponing can make a huge difference...so keep up the hard wok.  It pays off...literally.

It does say 2 – 3 weeks for delivery but are saying their are receiving theirs. Maybe you will get them by the END of next week to create this deal.

After Christmas Sales

Now is the time to stock up on candy, gift wrap, Christmas decor and such for next year.  Most stores will have these items go to 75% this weekend.  Even the gift sets will go to clearance and can make good birthday gifts.  Look for the Gillette shaving gift set because you can use the Gillete razor $4 coupon from the 12/25 PG insert on that. 

Dollar Tree

I went to the west side Dollar Tree yesterday and was able to buy Christmas gift bags, gift tags and ribbon for $.50 each.  So I bought all this for next year so that I will not have to pay full price.  Plus, hust getting it for $.50 is probably the cheapest you can get.  And they were cute bags and some were large enough to hold a 2 pillows in.

Best Huggies Deal I've ever gotten!

So here's the deal to get a package of Huggies diapers for $.50.  Go to CVS where the sale is $8.99 and you get a $3 ECB which makes them $5.99.  Then scan your extra care card and you will probably get a $4 off any diaper and wipe purchase.  So I found CVS flushable wipes (the ones I use for my older son) for $1.49 and the second one was 1/2 off.  So I bought the wipes and used the $4 coupon towards the diapers which made them $1.99.  THEN I used a $1.50 huggies coupon from the 7/11 SS which made them $.50.  Limit is one but I have multiple CVS cards so I will be getting more than one. I'd advise you to do the same with this deal if you can.  I love coupons!

Now is the time to stockpile for pens, paper and such and the best deals I have found have been CVS and walgreens.  Every week they have had an in-store coupon for a couple different items.  Last week I got 2 pairs of scissors and packs of pens for free.  Walgreens had 10 pack of mechanical pencils for $.39.  Take advantage of the deals now!

Want to search the net for a coupon?

There are several different coupon databases out there on the net.  I have one that I like the best.  Here is the link:

My shopping trips this week

TARGET:  I bought 9 lightbulbs because my coupons expire on the 5th.  So all free. I checked out the clearance and the east side store just sucks in that area.  For some reason I find much better clearance at the North Park store.  I also found out that the Tyson anytizers coupons do work on Tyson frozen chicken bags - any kind.  So that helped.  We like the strips of chicken and they were $6.99 and then I had $1 coupons

Schnucks:  Holly crap did I do good this week.  I'm starting to love all the blinkie coupons.  Just walk across the aisles and look for the blinking red light.  If it's a product you would ever buy - get a ton of coupons for it and then wait for a sale.  I grabbed a ton of $1 off California pizza flatbreads (which I'll use somewhere else).  I also grabbed $1 off any California pizza and it did not specify a size so I look for a sale on the "one" size pizzas.
Bumblee Tuna Pouches -  regularly $1.  On sale for $.79 and blinkie coupons for $.55.  So I paid $.24 each.  (I bought 24 of them!!!)

Manwhich Sloppy Joe - normally about $1.79 a can.  On sale for $1 and I had $1 off any 2 cans.  So $.50

Kelloggs cereal - Normally $4.79 a box.  On sale $2.50.  Had a coupon for $1 off 3 and then a schnucks coupon printed for $2 off next shopping trip.  So that made them $1.52  box (and they are the large box)

Scottie facial tissues: On sale for $1 and I has a $.50 coupon so I got them for $.50

Campbells soup:  I got tomato and chicken noodles soup on their sale price for $.50 a can (no Coupons...but still a good price)

Hunts ketchup:  On sale for $1 for the 24 oz. size and I had 2 coupons for $.20 off each from my sister-in-law so I paid $.80 each

So my subtotal for $54 and change.  After coupons it was $33 plus the $2 coupon for my next visit.  NICE!!

At home Job opportunity

My Target trip today

I went to Target today in North Park.  My freebies I bought were
4 GE Light bulbs (they are re-stocked again)

My good deals were
3 packages of Huggies diapers for $2.83 each (after coupons and the $5 gift card)
       - this is the best price I've gotten so far on Huggies

Kibbles N Bits dog food - I found a bag on clearance marked $10.10 and I had a $2 coupon.  So $8.10 for a 16lb. bag

Butt Paste - all natural for $2.89  (used a $2 coupon)

So all together I saved $47.31 on this trip.  So I took that saved money and bought a willow tree and landscaping much.

I also received in the mail today another coupon booklet from target on Everyday buys.  Awesome.  Lots of coupons I can stack.  i don't know why I get these coupons but I love it.  My only suggestion is to look on their website and sign up for anything they have.  I don't have a store card there so i don't really know how they have my address. 

End of the month

It is now the end of the month.  Just a reminder to print all the coupons you think you will use before the different websites reset them for next month.  Hopefully your favorite coupons will reset and you will be able to print 2 more.

The dreaded “no matching item screen” came up and when my cashier k1′d it instead of taking the amount off it took him to a screen and an option of scrolling through the transactions to manually tie the coupon to the item!

This small change should help immensely with the issues of people being told they can’t use the coupon because it doesn’t match. How much more matching could the Sun Chips have been to the free coupon they scanned for it but it said it wasn’t there?? It may not seem like much but because they will be forced to look through the items and see that in fact the item is right there they can’t pull that “item not there” line anymore. Another example was the free refill for the power sprayer. It said item not there, scanned through the items, selected the one it applied to and my receipt shows the item and now the coupon for the free item right below it. Normally those would show it at the bottom of the receipt.

Now this change does have its potential draw backs to those who’s stores will push through everything and allow overage. IT IS STORE POLICY TO ADJUST DOWN TO SELLING PRICE. So this new way of doing things may take away any previous overage that you are used to getting. When they scan to attach the coupon it should not allow it since the selling price is lower than coupon value. My cashier tonight knew to adjust them so he didn’t bother scanning them so i did not witness exactly what would happen. Whether or not you may continue to get the overage will be determined when you shop SO DON’T COUNT ON IT!!!

I am actually optimistic about this change. I would strongly suggest, as this is the only problem I can foresee with the change, to print and have with you for all trips, a copy of the current coupon policy stating they must adjust down the coupons.

Again, I really think this will help and the cashier who has been there a long time as well as one of the GSTL’s I spoke with thinks this will be beneficial to all…Time will tell but I wanted to share .

So pay close attention for the next several shopping trips to see how it goes with your coupons.

Walgreens trip

I got my free shaving gel today at Walgreens and then went to another Walgreens and bought more.  It seems the register reward is rolling so you can do this scenerio over and over - that is until they figure it out and program their register computer to not let the $3 register reward be used for the same product.  I also found lean cusine macaroni and cheese on clearance for $.89 and they had 4 left and I had a $1 off coupon if I bought 4.  So I scored them for super cheap.  They also had Pantenene on clearance for $2.50-$3.50 and there are tons of $1 off coupons out there but I passed this up since I'm stocked up and I'm looking for free deals only.

On to CVS tomorrow.

My Target Shopping Trip today

So today I went to the North Park Target and I had a short list of deals to get and a wedding present.  I got 2 Connect Four games that were orginally $14 but were on sale for $7.  I had 2 -$3 hasbro manufacturer coupon and 2 - $4 target coupon which got me both games for free. I also had taken a blinkie coupon I found at Walgreens a couple week ago for $1 off any Johnson and Johnson Red Cross product.  In the travel section there were J & J first aid travel kits for $1.29.  So I got this for .$29.  I pulled at least 5 coupons from the 1st Ave. Walgreens so I will go back to get more of these at Target in the future.  So look out for these blinkie coupons to use at Target.  I also had 2 coupons for $1 off 2 can of Campbells condensed soup which was on sale for $.75 each.  So I got 4 cans at $.25 each.   The North Park Target did not have beach towles in the dollar bin area but maybe they will later.  They also do not have Physcian Formula powder at a rollback price so no deal there like there is in other markets.

Kmart Issues

this is a post from another blog but will be helpful if your deciding to shop at Kmart with coupons.

Believe me, if it wasn’t for the fact that Kmart occasionally offers the Double Coupon Events, I would probably never step foot in another Kmart again!!




First, let me address the recent $10 off $20 Kmart purchase coupon. I chose to post this coupon because it was available on the Kmart web-site AND specifically stated that it could be used at any Kmart location. Although some Hip2Save readers were successful in using this coupon, the majority of readers have had issues with it beeping and/or being told that the coupon is fraudulent (seems odd since Kmart had the coupon available on their web-site?!). At this time, the coupon is no longer available on Kmart’s web-site…despite attempts to call Kmart about this issue, I have not been able to receive any additional information on the status of the coupon. So I am making the assumption that the coupon is no longer valid. Darn! However, it doesn’t hurt to try to use it if you are making a trip to Kmart regardless. Sorry about the confusion…I am honestly just as frustrated as most of you!



OK, now on to a different Kmart topic…the upcoming Kmart Double Coupon Event! Here is all the nitty gritty that you need to know prior to your Kmart shopping trip:



•This event is for select participating Kmart locations from April 4th-10th

•You can use manufacturer coupons up to and including a $2 value (i.e. if you have a $2/1 coupon, it will be doubled up to $2 for a total of $4 off the price of the item)

•You must be a member of the Shop Your Way Rewards program AND the cashier MUST swipe your reward’s card at the beginning of your transaction!!*

•Does not include Kmart Store Coupons or Kmart Pharmacy Store Coupons (i.e. Kmart coupons will NOT be doubled)

•Limit 5 total coupons per customer per day.

•If you are using more than 5 coupons in your transaction, ONLY the first 5 coupons will be doubled.

*If you are not currently a Kmart Shop Your Way Rewards card member, do NOT stress! There are 3 simple ways to become a member:



1.Go to the Customer Service Dept at your local Kmart or Sears store and request a card; you will be able to sign up and receive your card immediately (this is obviously the best option if you have a store close by)!

2.Call the Shop Your Way Rewards Card dept at 1.800.991.8708; they will take all your information over the phone and then a card will be mailed to you (the card typically takes 6-8 weeks to arrive). Even if you do not have the physical card in hand for the double coupon days, you can give the cashier your phone # or member # in order to pull up your reward’s account.

3.Click here to sign up on-line; then just print off a temporary card to use while you wait for the permanent card to arrive in the mail.

Just to better explain the coupon - here's another moms tips

 Coupon reads:
“$10 off regular, sale or clearance priced merchandise purchase in-store of $20 or more (before taxes and after other discounts have been applied) in a single transaction. Cannot combine with any other coupon for the same item(s) and cannot double. Limit (1) Kmart Savings Coupon per transaction.”


When it states before taxes and AFTER other discounts have been applied, I take that as meaning after all store discounts have been applied. When you use manufacturer’s coupons it’s just like paying with cash– using cash from the manufacturer, so that discount has nothing to do with the store. I would make sure your total is over $20 after all Kmart coupons and discounts have been applied. After doing so, hand over the $10 off $20 coupon AND then use any manufacturer coupons you may have.

Great Couponing Site

I've fallen in love with it. If you have time - watch the "Follow You" videos. Your mouth will drop on watching these 2 woman go shopping and get well over $200 worth of groceries and pay $8 for it. It's a good teaching video also.

One thing to note: We don't live in an area with major grocery stores with great coupon polices that allow for such a great savings as you see in those videos. But you can get great deals and free stuff every week from the store we do have here.

Below are my favorite sites that I check daily. This is where I get my best information. I'm always checking out new sites but right now these are the best ones I have found. Find them on facebook, become a fan and then you can get updates throughout the day on your facebook page. If your new to couponing you might want to start organizing your sites in your bookmarks to make it easier for you. Simply go to a website and then select bookmarks and click new folder. Name it whatever you want and start sorting all your sites into one folder. It's much easier and you wont forget the web address. I now sort all my coupon advice sites in one folder and online printable coupon sites in another and my store I shop in go in a third folder. I live in the country and I don't get all the store sales flyer in my mail or newspaper so I check them online. I also can check for online specials that way and for extra coupons.

Go to the website below and sign up for their emails. Then about every 4 or 5 days you will get an email with a list of items you can get for free. From there pick out what you want and click the link and fill out the information. I started this about 3 weeks ago and I'm already getting stuff in the mail. So far I have gotten all kinds of maxi pads and lotions. I think it's fun. I have my oldest son open the mail and he likes getting to see what's inside. $99 Cricut machine at Big Lots

Big Lots is having a 2 day sale. Lots of good stuff but the best item I see it the Cricut Create for $99. This also comes with a fonts cartridge that runs around $60. They also have cartridges for $30. I've never seen a Cricut at Big Lots, let alone for $99. This is not the expression but it's a step up from the one I have which is the original. My Target shopping trip today...
Target has their bedding and bath clearance at 75% off. They will be re-structuring that area of their stores for a new line coming in. So now is the time to buy if you need those items. I saw a king size comforter 4-piece bed set for $22 and it was cute. I bought bed embroidered dark brown satin pillow shams (king) for $5 each - they were origanally $20. I also found a expresso brown wood framed edged mirror for $15 (it was $60). It had a small damaged spot on one side that would not show once it hangs on the wall. I also got 4 travel size bottles of Johnson and Johnson shamppo and lotion for free.

My best deal was buying Boost Kids Essential drink which is $9.96 and I used a online coupon for $5.00 which came from http://www.couponsinc.com/corp/source/cp_clientlist.asp and a $3 target coupon that was mailed to me from being on their mailing list. So I paid $1.96 for them.
